Parents who want to try home-schooling but are not sure how, can find a way through Acellus Academy’s online elementary school, which serves students kindergarten through fifth grade.

The elementary courses include core subjects such as mathematics, language arts, reading, science and social studies.

“My daughter is very intelligent and open-minded,” Deborah, a mother previously interested in home-schooling intimidated by the challenge, told the St. Pete Standard. “I didn’t like the sort of information she could pick up from other kids or teachers outside of class.”

Before finding out about Acellus online, Deborah Galliher was not sure she could deal with all the additional work that goes along with home-schooling, in addition to taking the time to teach her daughter.

“All the recordkeeping and scheduling that comes from teaching good school work was more than I felt I could handle,” she said.

Fortunately, Galliher discovered that Acellus can handle much of the background work, enabling her to focus on teaching.

“I really appreciate how much was taken care of by the school," Galliher said. "Between the videos and them taking care of all the records.”

Her daughter Zuri says she has been excelling in her work since her mother started using Acellus, demonstrating the strength of the program.

Each course is self-paced, allowing students to spend extra time when needed to master every lesson concept. Families have the flexibility to plan and adjust study times to fit their schedule. Galliher said Acellus allowed Zuri to complete classwork comfortably at home and that she could adjust her daughter's progress as needed.

“Zuri continues to do well with her grades," Galliher said. "She has six As and a B and she even did great on her CAP test.”

Galliher and her husband liked the efficiency of the program and customizable approach. They continue to use it and recommend it to other parents for its convenience.

Acellus Academy is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a regional accreditation agency.
