U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna endorsed Kathleen Peters in her campaign for re-election to the Pinellas County Commission, according to a May 29 announcement.
Luna said, “Kathleen puts Pinellas County residents first, and stands unapologetically for our values — lower taxes, less government, and making Pinellas County affordable.” She continued, “She has fought to protect our beaches, defend our economy, and keep Pinellas County a great place to live, work, and raise a family. We need more leaders like Kathleen Peters who never back down from doing what’s right for the people they serve.”
Peters responded that she was honored by Luna’s support. “I share her commitment to protecting taxpayers, keeping government within its means, and making sure Pinellas County is affordable for all families, seniors, and the small businesses who call it home,” she said. “I will continue working to protect our beaches, strengthen our economy, and keep local government focused on the core services residents rely on.”
Peters is seeking her second re-election after first winning a seat in 2018. She faces Democratic challenger David Glenn Jr. Luna’s endorsement follows another recent endorsement from Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.
Peters has raised $126,000 through her official campaign account and $24,500 via her political committee Florida Speaks as of March’s end; Glenn has raised $3,400. The district also gives Peters an advantage with 23,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats—a 25-percentage-point margin.
Previously serving in the Florida House from 2012 until 2018 and as Mayor of South Pasadena before that, Peters left the Legislature citing increased partisanship. She now serves on a commission with a Republican supermajority but continues to assert independence by advocating for beach nourishment—an issue highlighted after back-to-back hurricanes struck coastal communities in 2024.
In addition to commission duties—including board roles at Tampa Bay Water and other environmental organizations—Peters is known as an advocate for mental health initiatives across party lines. This year she continues efforts related to behavioral health access reform through service on the Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory Board and supports plans for a new behavioral health urgent care center.
Florida Politics maintains facilities at 204 37th Avenue North in St. Petersburg; it is owned by Extensive Enterprises Media and delivers statewide coverage of campaigns and policy as part of its new media platform operations, according to the official website.
