Cold night shelters in Pinellas County will be open on the nights of January 31 and February 1, according to an announcement from the Homeless Leadership Alliance. The shelters will operate from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and are activated when the National Weather Service forecasts a “feels like” temperature below 40 degrees during those hours.
Guests can access the shelters until they reach capacity.
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is offering free bus rides to and from these cold night shelters both evenings, available from 5 p.m. through 7 a.m. Riders must inform PSTA drivers that they are heading to a Pinellas Cold Night Shelter in order to ride without paying a fare.
Several locations in St. Petersburg will serve adult men and women seeking shelter:
– Allendale Church at 3803 Haines Rd. N, accessible via PSTA Route #16 or #38.
– Northwest Church at 6330 54th Ave. N, which allows leashed or contained pets and is accessible by PSTA Route #54 or #66.
– Salvation Army at 1400 4th St. S, requiring valid ID for entry, served by PSTA Route #4A or B.
– Unitarian Universalist Church at 100 Mirror Lake Dr. N, which requires use of stairs and is accessible via PSTA Routes #9, #20, or #24 SunRunner.
Families with children will be placed in family shelters if space is available; those seeking placement should call First Contact at 2-1-1 for information about family shelters in St. Petersburg and Clearwater.
