Eckerd men’s tennis edged out by Davenport in close contest

The Eckerd men’s tennis team lost a close match to Davenport University on Thursday in Orlando, Florida, with a final score of 4-3.

Eckerd started strong by winning two out of three doubles matches. Batu Ataseven and Amirali Ghavam secured a 6-3 win at the No. 1 doubles position, while Adrian Gheorghe and Marshal Hulett also won their match 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. These victories gave Eckerd a 1-0 lead going into the singles competition.

In singles play, Eckerd extended its lead after Mario Kirkov overcame a first-set loss to win his match at No. 2 singles with scores of 4-6, 6-1, and 11-9. Amirali Ghavam added another point for the Tritons by winning his match at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-1. With these wins, Eckerd led Davenport 3-0.

However, Davenport rallied by taking the last four singles matches, ultimately securing the overall victory.

Eckerd is scheduled to return to action on Sunday for Senior Day against West Chester.
