The Eckerd Tritons baseball team won its series against the Lynn Fighting Knights, splitting a doubleheader on March 15 before securing the final game with an 11-6 victory.
The outcome is significant for the Tritons as they continue their season and prepare for upcoming games. The team’s performance demonstrated resilience after a tough loss in the first game of the day.
In the opening game, Hunter Rebhan drove in the first run for Eckerd, but Lynn responded with multiple runs in early innings and a big eight-run fourth inning. Despite efforts from Corey Hodierne and Kam Gelwick—who hit a three-run home run—the Tritons could not overcome the deficit, falling 15-7. Rebhan and Luis Garrido added RBIs in the sixth inning, but Lynn extended its lead late to even the series.
The second game saw Eckerd fall behind early as Lynn scored three runs in their first at-bat. Ean Gimson hit a leadoff home run to start Eckerd’s comeback, followed by Christian Cabina’s RBI single. After trading runs through five innings, Eckerd trailed 6-3 entering the seventh. The team rallied with back-to-back home runs from Rebhan and Gelwick, an infield single by Cabina, and a two-run homer by Garrido to take a 7-6 lead. Two more runs were added in the eighth inning, and Rocco Calise closed out the win on the mound.
The Tritons collected 19 hits as a team during their victory, with Gimson, Cabina, and Garrido each recording three hits. The team will next play Purdue Northwest on Tuesday.
This series win provides momentum for Eckerd as it continues its schedule.
