The Eckerd Tritons softball team earned a series victory against the Florida Tech Panthers after splitting a doubleheader on April 18. The Panthers won the first game 8-0, but the Tritons responded with a 4-0 shutout in the second game.
This outcome highlights Eckerd’s performance as they continue their season in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports, competing as part of the Sunshine State Conference, according to the official website. In the opening game, Florida Tech built an early lead by scoring in each of the first four innings. Despite efforts from Ella Coiner and relief pitcher Julia Heter, who struck out four batters, Eckerd could not close the gap before the eight-run rule ended play after five innings.
In game two, Eckerd took control early with three runs in their first at-bat. Hannah Taylor hit a two-run home run to start scoring for Eckerd and was followed by Faith Wharton’s sixth home run of the season. Pitcher Brandilyn Reymer retired 18 consecutive batters after allowing one base runner and finished with a one-hit shutout that included 11 strikeouts and no walks. The fourth run came when Kinsley Castro was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.
Reymer secured her seventeenth win of the season on the mound as Eckerd improved its overall record to 29-8. The team will travel to face Rollins next weekend.
