Pinellas County Clerk Ken Burke was named a national “Government Champions 250” honoree, according to a Mar. 31 announcement, recognizing his contributions to local government in advance of the United States’ upcoming 250th anniversary.
The recognition highlights the importance of public servants and their impact on local communities as part of the Local Gov 250 initiative. The program aims to draw attention to the role local governments play in shaping American democracy through service and innovation.
Burke was selected by the National Academy of Public Administration and its partners for advancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency within Pinellas County government. He has served as Pinellas County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for more than two decades, overseeing official records, county finances, auditing duties, and safeguarding public funds. Before his election as clerk, Burke worked as a certified public accountant (CPA) and law firm administrator. He also held leadership roles in education and nonprofit organizations such as St. Petersburg College Board of Trustees and Catholic Charities.
“I am honored to be recognized alongside so many dedicated public servants across the country,” Burke said. “This recognition reflects the important ongoing work being done in Pinellas County as we serve our community with integrity and excellence.”
Honorees are scheduled to attend a national event on May 12 in Philadelphia that is part of broader celebrations marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
