The Pinellas Association of Library Information Specialists recognized the achievements of Pinellas Library Media Specialists on June 1. Several administrators nominated their Library Media Technology Specialists, highlighting their dedication and enthusiasm in supporting school libraries.

Dennis Russo from Lakewood High and Shannon Scott from Leila Davis Elementary were named this year’s Library Media Specialists of the Year. According to the announcement, both professionals were selected for their commitment to fostering dynamic library programs that enrich their schools and inspire students.

“Their commitment to fostering dynamic library programs has not only enriched their schools but also inspired students to embrace a love for reading and learning,” the association said.

Pinellas County Schools operates as the official public school district for Pinellas County under the governance of its elected School Board. The district maintains an extensive network of 144 school facilities, ranking as the ninth-largest in Florida. It focuses on academic achievement, innovation, student development, and preparing students for college, careers, and life while offering a diverse selection of magnet programs, according to the official website.

The recognition highlights ongoing efforts by library media professionals across Pinellas County Schools to promote literacy and learning opportunities within local communities.
