Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation was identified as the second largest nursing home in Pinellas County during the initial quarter of 2026, based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility offered 244 beds—131 more than the county average for the period—and served an average of 197.8 residents throughout the quarter.

The CMS assigned Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation an overall rating of 2 out of 5, which is below Florida’s average nursing home rating of 3.3.

Balanced Healthcare was listed as the largest Pinellas County nursing home during this time with 299 beds, while Oakpark Health and Rehabilitation Center|Marion and Bernard L Samson Nursing Center|Oak Manor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center followed closely behind Sabal Palms with 180 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Sabal Palms Health & Rehabilitation reported zero fines or penalties.

There were 53 for-profit nursing homes operating in Pinellas County, Florida during the same timeframe.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the number of older adults nationwide continues to rise as younger age groups decline. Researchers noted a 13% jump in Americans age 65 and older between 2020 and 2024 and a 1.7% decrease for those under 18. The population of older adults in the country has increased greatly over the past century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

According to a 2021 report, close to half of this age bracket—about 28 million people—are projected to require long-term services and supports. More than one-third could eventually need care from a nursing home provider.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
