As hurricane season continues, the City of St. Petersburg has expanded its sandbag distribution days to help residents prepare during non-emergency periods. Sandbags will be available on the second Saturday of each month at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building, located at 1744 9th Ave. N. The next opportunity for residents to collect sandbags is on August 10, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Recently, the city distributed 31,000 sandbags at emergency locations in preparation for Hurricane Debby. Residents are encouraged to obtain sandbags before storms approach to avoid long lines at distribution sites.
The additional hours aim to increase accessibility for residents who may not be able to collect sandbags during regular work hours. “The City strongly encourages residents to proactively pick up their sandbags and other materials to stay prepared for storms,” a city representative stated.
Regular sandbag distribution takes place Monday through Friday and on the second Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with these extended hours continuing until further notice. During emergencies, both locations and hours may change; updates will be provided at stpete.org/Sandbags.
Each household can receive up to ten sandbags upon presenting proof of St. Petersburg residency. Assistance is available for seniors and those unable to fill or load their own bags.
