St. Petersburg City Council is currently accepting applications for the Citizen Representative position on the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) Board of Directors. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, August 15, 2024.

The role of Citizen Representative offers a chance for community leaders to engage with local and regional transit issues. Candidates should be familiar with transportation matters, regularly use public transit, possess financial expertise, and understand St. Petersburg’s influence on community projects.

PSTA Board meetings are typically held monthly on the fourth Wednesday at 9 a.m., located at PSTA Headquarters on Scherer Drive. Additionally, a Budget Public Hearing takes place in September at 6 p.m. Current City Council representatives include Chair Deborah Figgs-Sanders and Member Gina Driscoll, who also chairs the PSTA Board. Terms last three years, with a limit of three consecutive terms per member; the new term begins October 1.

Applicants need to demonstrate:

– Knowledge of transportation and transit issues such as bus rider needs and funding considerations.
– Understanding of St. Pete’s involvement in projects like the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area Mobility Study.
– A learning mindset to adapt and incorporate new information proactively.

Interested individuals can submit their resume and cover letter via email to Cynthia.Sheppard@stpete.org by August 15, 2024.

A Committee of the Whole meeting will occur on August 22, where candidates will present themselves and discuss their interest in serving as Citizen Representative. The City Council plans to vote on this appointment during its next regular meeting scheduled for September 5, 2024.
