The City of St. Petersburg is taking proactive measures in anticipation of Tropical Storm Milton, which may impact the area as early as Tuesday evening, October 8. The city is still in recovery from Hurricane Helene and has urged residents to prepare for potential storm effects.

The city’s emergency sandbag operations have been activated, with both full-service and self-service options available on Sunday, October 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Locations for sandbag collection include Dell Homes Park, Fossil Park Northern Most Parking Lot, Walter Fuller Soccer Field Parking Lot for self-service, and Lake Maggiore Park Shelter Area, Northeast Park East Baseball Field Parking Lot, Northwest Swimming Pool Parking Lot Park for full-service.

Efforts are also underway to manage stormwater operations by clearing storm drains and ditches. Street sweeping is being conducted to keep roads free of debris. As part of ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, city teams continue to clear fallen trees and other debris.

In preparation for Tropical Storm Milton, the city has enlisted additional contractors who will work around the clock to remove as much storm debris as possible before the storm arrives. Residents are advised that all storm debris must be separated if they choose to handle it themselves. Options include taking vegetative debris to city brush sites or hiring private haulers approved to dispose of debris at designated locations.
