Due to the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene, the City of St. Petersburg has announced the cancellation of its planned open house events at local water treatment facilities. Initially scheduled for various dates in October and November, these events were intended to offer residents an insight into the operations of the city’s water treatment plants.

The open houses were set to provide guided tours led by plant operators and city staff, showcasing processes involved in wastewater collection and reclamation as well as potable water sourcing and distribution. The events were designed to be educational, giving attendees a comprehensive view of how water is managed from source to distribution within St. Petersburg.

Scheduled tours included visits to the Cosme Water Treatment Plant in Odessa, along with three Water Reclamation facilities located throughout St. Petersburg. Each tour was planned to start hourly between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., offering participants a chance to engage with city employees and learn about the infrastructure that supports daily water usage.

City officials emphasized safety during these walking tours, recommending appropriate attire for outdoor conditions and requiring photo identification for entry. Special accommodations could be arranged upon request through the Water Resources Department.

While these educational opportunities have been postponed indefinitely due to hurricane recovery efforts, interested parties are encouraged to seek further information on future rescheduling or updates by visiting stpete.org/WaterOpenHouse or contacting relevant city departments directly.
