The City of St. Petersburg has launched the MLK Communities in Action Mini-Grant Program to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. The initiative will provide up to 20 grants of $1,500 each, with a total funding pool of $30,000. These grants are intended for local small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and civic groups that organize healing and wellness-focused events celebrating Dr. King’s impact on service and resilience.

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, faith-based organizations, educational institutions, small businesses, and other community-based groups. Supported activities may range from intergenerational wellness events and neighborhood cleanups to nutrition workshops and community fitness challenges.

“Grant funds may be used for supplies, space rentals, healthy food resources and promotional materials. All awardees must incorporate official MLK ‘Power of a Dream’ branding and contribute to a collective impact report.”

Applicants are required to submit an application along with a two-page proposal explaining how their project aligns with Dr. King’s legacy and addresses community needs. The proposal should also outline the implementation plan, expected outcomes, budget details, and proof of tax-exempt status if relevant.

The application period opened November 10 and will close at 4 p.m. on November 21. Events funded by these mini-grants are expected to take place between January 2 and February 15 next year.

Further information about eligibility requirements or the application process can be found at www.stpete.org/MLKgrant.
