The City of St. Petersburg is taking proactive measures during the hurricane season by offering additional opportunities for residents to collect sandbags. In September, two Saturdays have been designated for this purpose at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building located at 1744 9th Ave. N.

Residents can pick up sandbags on Saturday, September 7, and Saturday, September 14, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. These extended hours aim to provide greater accessibility for residents who may not be able to visit during regular weekday hours.

“The City strongly encourages residents to proactively pick up their sandbags and other materials to stay prepared for storms,” according to a statement from city officials. The initiative seeks to help residents prepare before a storm becomes imminent, thereby avoiding long lines at distribution sites.

Sandbag distribution is available Monday through Friday and on the second Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with these special Second Saturday hours continuing until further notice. During emergency declarations related to storms, changes in location and operating hours will be communicated via stpete.org/Sandbags.

Each household is eligible for up to ten sandbags upon providing proof of residency in St. Pete. Assistance will be available for seniors and others who may need help filling or loading their sandbags.

For ongoing updates about weather conditions and hurricane preparedness, residents are encouraged to visit stpete.org/Hurricane.
