Cold night shelters in St. Petersburg are open on Monday, January 26, as temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees overnight. The Homeless Leadership Alliance has coordinated with local organizations to provide shelter for those in need. These shelters activate when the National Weather Service forecasts a “feels like” temperature below 40 degrees from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Shelters will accept guests until they reach capacity.

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is offering free bus rides to and from cold night shelters from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday. Riders must inform drivers that they are traveling to a Pinellas Cold Night Shelter to ride without paying fare.

The following shelters are available for adult men and women in St. Petersburg:

– Allendale Church at 3803 Haines Rd. N (served by PSTA Route #16, #38)
– Northwest Church at 6330 54th Ave. N (allows leashed or contained pets; served by PSTA Route #54, #66)
– Salvation Army at 1400 4th St. S (served by PSTA Route #4A or B)
– Unitarian Universalist Church at 100 Mirror Lake Dr. N (requires use of stairs; served by PSTA Routes #9, #20, #24 SunRunner)

Families with children will be directed to family shelters if space is available and should call First Contact at 2-1-1 for more information about locations in St. Petersburg and Clearwater.

More information about additional shelter locations throughout Pinellas County can be found at www.PinellasHomeless.org/coldnightshelters.

People interested in supporting the Cold Night Shelter Program can volunteer or donate through the same website.
