The City of St. Petersburg is offering residents a unique opportunity to explore its water treatment facilities through a series of open houses scheduled for this spring. The events are designed to provide attendees with an understanding of how wastewater is collected, processed into reclaimed water, and distributed at one of the city’s three Water Reclamation facilities.

An open house at the Cosme Water Treatment Plant will provide insights into the sourcing, processing, and distribution of potable water. Tours led by plant operators and city staff will detail the entire flow of water from start to finish while answering questions from visitors.

Tours are scheduled hourly beginning at 9 a.m., with the final tour starting at 11 a.m. on the following dates:

– Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cosme Water Treatment Plant, 16015 Race Track Rd., Odessa, FL.
– Saturday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Northwest Water Reclamation Facility, 7500 26th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL.
– Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Southwest Water Reclamation Facility, 3800 54th Ave. S., St. Petersburg, FL.

The tours primarily take place outdoors and involve walking; attendees should prepare for sun exposure and wear comfortable closed-toe shoes.

Entry requires photo identification and minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian or parent. While registration is not necessary for participation in these events, facilities may not be ADA accessible by default; however, reasonable accommodations can be arranged by contacting the Water Resources Department at (727)893-7261.

A city spokesperson stated that “City employees work hard every day to provide consistent quality service so that every time you turn on the tap or flush the toilet things work how they should.” These open houses aim to showcase this effort and foster public appreciation for maintaining water services in St. Petersburg.

For further inquiries about these events or additional information regarding accessibility accommodations contact the City’s Water Resources Department via phone.
