St. Petersburg prepares for Firestone Grand Prix with flag-raising ceremony

Mayor Kenneth T. Welch, alongside the City of St. Petersburg, is organizing a flag-raising ceremony to commence the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The event will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, outside City Hall located at 175 5th St. N. This annual ceremony is open to the public.

The event will feature Mayor Welch, St. Petersburg City Council Chair Copley Gerdes, owners and promoters Kim Green and Kevin Savoree, INDYCAR President Jay Frye, local participant Nikita Johnson, and Patricio “Pato” O’Ward Junco, who won first place in 2024.

Celebrating its 21st year, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is scheduled for February 28 through March 2, 2025. The race covers a 1.8-mile circuit with 14 turns along downtown streets near Pioneer Park and extends onto Albert Whitted Airport’s runways.
