The City of St. Petersburg announced that the Northeast Sewer Treatment Plant will be operational again at midnight on Saturday, September 28, 2024. This development allows residents and businesses in the affected area to resume normal activities such as flushing toilets, taking showers, and doing laundry.

The plant, located at 1160 62nd Ave. NE, was temporarily shut down on September 26 to safeguard it from an unprecedented storm surge. The decision to turn off power was made by the city to protect the facility. The plan involved de-energizing the plant before the storm surge and re-energizing it once conditions improved.

City officials confirmed that their strategy has been effective, enabling a safe restoration of services. Residents are encouraged to visit stpete.org/helene for ongoing updates regarding the situation.
