The City of St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department announced on June 3 that it will host a Juneteenth celebration at the Sunshine Senior Center on Friday, June 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event aims to honor the history and cultural significance of Juneteenth through activities, live entertainment, and opportunities for learning and community connection. Admission is free but requires registration.

The celebration will take place at the Sunshine Senior Center located at 330 5th St. N. Attendees can expect live music and dance performances, food and refreshments, trivia games, and interactive activities designed to celebrate African American culture and heritage. A special presentation will be given by the event coordinator of St. Pete’s first Juneteenth celebration, offering historical insight into the tradition’s growth within the community.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and is recognized as a day for reflection, education, and celebration.

For more information or to register for the event, residents are directed to visit www.stpeteparksrec.org/Events or contact the Sunshine Senior Center by phone.

St. Petersburg has cultivated a diverse cultural scene with vibrant neighborhoods and arts initiatives that enrich community life; it also features notable infrastructure such as its municipal marina and Museum of Fine Arts. These efforts support broader goals around inclusivity, innovation, equitable policies, and community engagement across Pinellas County, according to the official history page and the official website.
