The City of St. Petersburg has launched a new Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tool aimed at assisting homeowners in determining the feasibility of building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their property.

Amy Foster, Housing and Neighborhood Services Administrator, stated, “As we continue to expand housing options in St. Pete, this new GIS mapping tool will be a vital resource for homeowners looking to enhance their property with an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). Whether they’re planning for multigenerational living or creating an additional income stream, the ability to easily check ADU eligibility puts more power in the hands of our residents. This is another step toward a more affordable and inclusive housing landscape for our city.”

The tool provides a straightforward way for residents to explore housing options by entering their address to verify ADU eligibility as zoning continues to broaden across the city.

This initiative supports the City’s efforts to increase housing diversity and affordability. The GIS tool simplifies navigation through zoning regulations and helps homeowners utilize ADUs for various purposes such as generating income, accommodating extended family members, or downsizing.

Residents can access the GIS map online to determine if their property qualifies for an ADU. Additional information about ADU regulations in St. Petersburg is available at stpete.org/ADU.
