St. Petersburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
Congratulations to Officer Max McDonald on his retirement!
Officer McDonald retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1998 after 20 years working in computer programming and intelligence.
Civilian life wasn’t for him, so, nearly 10 years later, he was hired by SPPD and went through the police academy at the age of 48. Officer McDonald was sworn in on December 17, 2007.
Officer McDonald has been a longtime member of the Honor Guard and the Mounted Unit. He and his partner, Brooklyn, have kept the peace in the downtown district and were ambassadors for the City.
Officer McDonald is a true hero in St. Petersburg. He was awarded the Medal of Valor, the Presidential Medal of Valor, and the Congressional Badge of Bravery for his heroic and selfless actions on January 24, 2011.
Officer McDonald entered a house, twice, under heavy gunfire by a wanted fugitive to help rescue and carry wounded officers to safety.
Thank you, Max, for your courageous service to our country and our city.
