St. Petersburg, FL – On Thursday, November 30, 2023, the St. Petersburg City Council approved a historic Joint Federal Legislative Agenda for 2024 in partnership with Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. This marks the first time that City Council and the Mayor have formally agreed to unified priorities to advocate for on behalf of the city.

“This historic Joint Federal Legislative Agenda is a statement of our values to our partners in Congress and the White House. It’s also a message to the residents of St. Petersburg that we hear you and are working on your behalf in every arena possible,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Kenneth T. Welch. “Delivering on my administration’s promise of principled progress requires partnership at all levels of government. I look forward to continuing to work with both City Council and the Federal Government to advance this agenda.

“Our advocacy for the residents of St. Petersburg goes beyond the walls of City Hall. Many of the issues important to our residents, like affordable housing, flood insurance, and improvements to our natural environment, require partnerships with the Federal Government,” said Council Member Lisset Hanewicz, Chair of the Legislative Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. “I’m proud to have worked with Mayor Welch, his administration, and my City Council colleagues to strengthen our relationships with our federal partners and lead the development of this historic Joint Federal Legislative Agenda.”

This document represents the united priorities of both Mayor Kenneth T. Welch and the St. Petersburg City Council. Framed around Mayor Welch’s five Pillars for Progress, this document will guide the city’s advocacy efforts, grant applications, and strategic engagement.
