The St. Petersburg City Council has given the green light to commence roof repairs at Tropicana Field, allocating $23 million for the project. These funds will be used for the fabrication, delivery, and installation of a PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) roof membrane.
The stadium's roof was damaged when Hurricane Milton struck last October. This makes the repairs necessary for the venue to host Tampa Bay Rays home games once again.
Manufacturing of the roof material will now begin, with the aim to have the roof replacement completed by December 2025. After this, the city plans to proceed with interior repairs and new turf installation, targeting overall completion by April 2026.
Today's vote follows a December 2024 City Council approval of a design-build agreement for pre-construction services related to Tropicana Field's emergency roof replacement. The current approval shifts the project into the construction phase.
Attention now turns to the summer when the City Council will vote on four packages for interior repairs. These packages will cover various aspects including metal panels, sports lighting, audiovisual components, and other items specific to architectural and mechanical needs.
