The Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association endorsed Sam Wilson for Clearwater City Council Seat 5 on Apr. 14, adding law enforcement support to his campaign ahead of the Aug. 18 election.

The endorsement highlights growing backing for Wilson from local leaders and organizations as he seeks to replace outgoing council member Lina Teixeira. The Sun Coast PBA represents law enforcement officers throughout Pinellas County, providing significant community support.

“I’m honored to have the support of the Police Benevolent Association. Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our community, and they deserve leaders who will stand with them, support them, and ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively,” Wilson said. “Public safety will always be a top priority for me.”

Wilson’s recent endorsements include Clearwater Mayor Bruce Rector and former Mayor Frank Hibbard, along with U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, whom he serves as congressional staffer. He has also secured backing from current city council members David Allbritton, Ryan Cotton and Mike Mannino.

Wilson began working with Luna in mid-2022 in several roles before becoming District Director in November 2024. His previous experience includes internships with federal officials such as U.S. Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Gus Bilirakis of Florida, as well as then-U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio.

Wilson leads fundraising efforts in the race after raising nearly $23,000 in the first quarter of 2026—bringing his total above $38,000 split between his campaign account and an affiliated political committee called Clearwater Families for Affordability. In comparison, challenger Mark Bunker has raised just over $1,200 so far.

According to the official website, Florida Politics delivers statewide coverage of campaigns, elections, government policy and lobbying activities across Florida under Extensive Enterprises Media ownership based out of St. Petersburg.

Wilson previously said his priorities include addressing affordability issues within Clearwater and ensuring transparency in city business.
