The University of South Florida men’s tennis team lost 4–2 to the University of Tulsa in a road match at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Sunday.

Tulsa started strong by winning the doubles point. Although USF’s Hugo Car and Timeo Gaillard won their match at No. 3 doubles with a 7–5 score against Victor Tosetto and Gus Tettamble, Tulsa secured victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts to take an early lead.

In singles play, South Florida earned two points. Agustin Cuellar defeated Connor Doig in straight sets (6–4, 6–1) at No. 4 singles, while Timeo Gaillard added another win for the Bulls by overcoming Ruben Fernandez in three sets (6–3, 3–6, 6–1) at No. 5 singles.

Tulsa clinched the overall victory with wins at the top three singles positions. Elijah Cham challenged Nikita Volonski in two close sets but ultimately lost both in tiebreakers at No. 1 singles. The Golden Hurricane also won matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to secure the team win.

James Newton’s match at No. 6 singles was left unfinished after Tulsa clinched the deciding point.

With this result, South Florida’s record moves to 3–11 for the season as they continue their spring schedule.

Ashley Fisher is serving his ninth year as head coach of USF men’s tennis during the current season and has led the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including three second-round trips.
