On August 4, 2024, a significant wastewater spill occurred at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility located at 3800 54th Ave. S. The incident involved approximately 229,165 gallons of wastewater spilling from a tank due to severe weather conditions brought by Tropical Storm Debby.

The facility’s onsite lift stations successfully captured the spilled wastewater and redirected it back to the plant’s head for treatment. Importantly, the spill did not reach any surface water bodies.
