Bay Vista Fundamental Elementary School issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.

*Principal's Message*

Good Evening Bay Vista Families,

This is Principal Hall calling with carline etiquette guidelines to promote safety and positive example for our jaguars.

AFTERNOON CARLINE CONCERNS

When entering carline from the north in the afternoon, all cars should remain in the turn lane until a left turn can be made safely. Today, some cars pulled around those waiting in line to skip ahead of others, thus pulling in the way of those cars entering from the south and creating a hostile environment upon arriving on campus.

Also, when on campus in the afternoon carline, cars should stay in their lane until students have loaded your car. Cars should not switch lanes while waiting to try and get to the merge point more quickly. This also happened today creating a hostile situation among parents.

Such behavior cannot be tolerated on school campus, so please exercise patience while waiting in carline and be courteous to others to ensure safety for all. The first few weeks take time to train new families on the process as we also learn names and cars. Also, please have the NAME HANGTAG hanging from your review mirror to assist us.

We will have a police presence on site tomorrow and intermittently over the coming days to ensure there is not a repeat of today.

WALKERS-please share with other family members who will pick up your students

It is imperative that families communicate with teachers via the agenda as to how your student will go home if it should change. Several families are arriving, seeing the carline, and calling the office to ask that their student go home as a walker instead or a car rider. We cannot interrupt classroom instruction for such requests on a daily basis. As previously shared, parents meeting walkers should arrive by 2:30 to meet their students. Additionally, some are arriving and challenging staff members. We work hard to promote a positive environment for all and such behavior works against those efforts. Students will not be called to meet walking parents as it interferes with the flow of the carline. Parents who arrive to bypass the carline will be redirected to join the carline as it is our preferred method for students to leave campus.

Thank you for helping observe and for following our processes to ensure safety for students, staff, and families. I look forward to an efficient and safe afternoon carline tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Donna Hall, Principal

Bay Vista Fundamental
