Recently, our 6th grade scholars enjoyed a visit from the St. Petersburg Police Department Forensics Services Unit! As our scholars begin to learn about exciting career opportunities in the field of STEM, this timely visit was exciting, engaging, and informative! Scholars learned that forensics is an applied science that is a lot like a puzzle. It involves finding clues and solving the mysteries left behind at a crime scene. Scholars also learned that forensic science includes the preservation and reconstruction of evidence after time has passed. With the help of our guests, scholars got hands on by dusting for fingerprints and swabbing for DNA on everyday items like coffee cups, grocery wrappers, and soda cans. Great work scholars!
