The City of St. Petersburg has been awarded $3,645,080 from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All program. This funding aims to enhance road safety in the community by supporting local projects that prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

Mayor Kenneth T. Welch expressed his enthusiasm about the grant, stating, "With Environment, Infrastructure and Resilience as one of our Pillars for Progress, I'm excited to announce the City of St. Petersburg has been awarded $3.6 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help make our roads safer for everyone." He further acknowledged the support from Congresswoman Kathy Castor and federal partners in securing this grant.

The city plans to use these funds for various transportation safety projects across St. Petersburg. The initiatives will include implementing and analyzing demonstration safety treatments such as improved lighting, pedestrian crosswalks, curb extensions, and reduced speed zones. These efforts are intended to address daily road safety hazards faced by pedestrians and drivers.
