During this trip, they plan to learn about the impacts and lessons their counterparts on the Island learned from Hurricane Ian and bring those lessons back home to help Treasure Island better prepare for hurricanes and tropical storms.

Pinellas County Schools did an outstanding job of organizing the new Student Leadership Summit. Activities included a Lego Competition (I’m sure my students wanted me to leave at this point), a scavenger hunt and development of a plan to share what they learned with our school community.
Our Reduce Single-Use project team is even testing a smartphone app that will track single-use plastic use and refusal—with an additional grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, we hope make it public to help residents digitally track single-use plastic consumption.
It’s completely free and open to the public, particularly anyone who may want to become a volunteer this year. It will be held over Zoom on February 16th at 7pm.

The title of the escape room was “Snow Day: Escape Being Stranded at School.” Students were paired into groups and had 45 minutes to unlock 7 locks with figurative language clues given for each lock.
