Cold night shelters in St. Petersburg, Florida will be open on Saturday night, January 20, according to an announcement by the Homeless Leadership Alliance. The shelters will provide a warm and safe place to sleep, and some sites will also serve a meal. The decision to activate the shelters is based on the National Weather Service's forecast of the "feels like" temperature dropping to 40 degrees or below between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The following cold weather shelters in St. Pete are available to adult men and women:
- Northwest Presbyterian Church: Located at 6330 54th Ave. N., the shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Salvation Army: Located at 1400 4th St. S., the shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Unitarian Universalist Church of St. Petersburg: Located at 100 Mirror Lake Dr. N., the shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please note that this location requires the use of stairs.
- WestCare Turning Point: Located at 1810 5th Ave. N., the shelter will be open from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Families with children will be placed in family shelters on cold nights, if space is available. Families should contact 2-1-1, Tampa Bay Cares, Inc., for information about family shelters.
