The Coliseum in St. Petersburg is marking its 100th anniversary this November with a series of free events. The venue, located at 535 4th Ave. N., has been a central location for special events, concerts, dances, and weddings since it was established in 1924.

Coliseum Manager Sarah Carvalis expressed her excitement about the milestone: “We are so excited to celebrate the Coliseum’s 100th Anniversary,” she said. She added that thousands have made great memories in the building and emphasized her honor in being part of the venue's history for two decades.

The celebration invites the community to partake in activities and music reflecting the rich history of the Coliseum. Mayor Kenneth T. Welch will deliver a proclamation to commence the event.

Scheduled activities include Swing Time dance lessons from 1-1:45 p.m., performances by Les Elgart Orchestra from 2-3:15 p.m., The Dwayne White Quartet from 4-5:15 p.m., and The Impacs from 6-7:15 p.m.

Additionally, under conductor Chelsea Gallo, the Florida Orchestra will perform orchestral pop music suitable for all ages. Although free, pre-registration is necessary due to limited seating; details can be found at stpete.org/coliseum100.

The Coliseum was built in 1924 and acquired by St. Petersburg city authorities in 1989. It has undergone significant renovations over time while maintaining its architectural charm, offering a versatile space for various events.
