In September, St. Petersburg will celebrate its inaugural City of Performing Arts Month, showcasing the city's vibrant performing arts scene. The event is organized by the City of St. Petersburg in collaboration with the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and various local partners.
The month-long celebration will feature over 40 events across different genres including theatre, dance, music, jazz, opera, comedy, and poetry. "The 'City of Performing Arts Month' is an exciting opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on the vibrant and diverse performing arts community here in St. Pete," said Celeste Davis, Director of Arts, Culture & Tourism at the City of St. Petersburg. "This event series brings together an eclectic mix of performances that truly capture the essence of our city’s creative energy."
Several organizations are involved in this initiative including Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association, American Stage, The Dalí Museum, EMIT, The Florida Orchestra among others.
A selection of featured events includes "The Off-Central Players Present: David Harrower’s Blackbird" from September 5-15 at Studio Grand Central; "Daniela Soledade: Brazilian Dream" on September 7 at The Palladium's Hough Concert Hall; and "Poetry at the Dali" on September 12 at The Dali Museum.
Additional performances include musical improv comedy "Note Nonsense" on September 13 at Spitfire Comedy House; a concert by The Florida Orchestra titled "How to Train Your Dragon – In Concert" on September 14 at Mahaffey Theater; American Stage's presentation of "Ring of Fire" from September 25 to October 20 at Raymond James Theatre; and "St. Pete Opera Presents: Samson & Delilah" on select dates from late September to early October at Palladium Theater.
