Due to the significant impact of Hurricane Helene, the City of St. Petersburg has collaborated with PSTA to offer a two-week fare-free bus service within city limits starting Monday, September 30. This initiative, named the St. Pete Emergency Zero Fare Program, aims to support residents who have lost their vehicles due to flooding and are facing other storm-related challenges.
The free fare period will last until Sunday, October 13, after which regular fares will resume on Monday, October 14. The program is designed to ease financial burdens and transportation issues caused by the hurricane's effects across the city.
"As part of the City's recovery efforts and in order to reduce the financial and transportation impacts Helene has caused, the City has made this arrangement to assist our residents with their essential transportation needs and as a small gesture to help everyone through this tough time," stated Mayor Kenneth T. Welch.
Riders should note that due to westbound access limitations, the SunRunner will be turning around at Pasadena. The fare-free initiative is a pilot program and does not extend to Access, MOD, or other mobility services.
