St. Petersburg will host the MLK Dream Big Weekend from January 17-20, 2025, in celebration of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. This marks the 38th year of honoring Dr. King's vision of justice and equality.
The event features St. Pete Fire Rescue Chief Keith Watts as the Grand Marshal for the parade on January 20. "Chief Watts, whose leadership and dedication to public service exemplifies the values Dr. King championed, was recently sworn in as St. Petersburg’s first Black fire chief," organizers noted.
Adding to the festivities is a performance by the Florida A&M University Marching 100 Band during the parade, recognized for their dynamic performances.
On January 19, Gibbs High School will host the Annual MLK Dream Big Educational Band Showcase at 4:00 p.m., featuring college bands from across the country such as FAMU and Tuskegee University.
The weekend's highlight is expected to be Monday's parade through downtown St. Petersburg, showcasing floats, marching bands, and cultural performances.
