In response to the recent hurricanes, the City of St. Petersburg is collaborating with the Bay Area Apartment Association (BAAA) to host a Hurricane Recovery Rental Housing Fair. Scheduled for January 22, from 3 to 7 p.m., the event will take place at The Coliseum in St. Petersburg. This initiative aims to connect individuals displaced by Hurricanes Helene and Milton with housing providers offering both short-term and long-term rental opportunities.
Over 40 housing communities affiliated with BAAA will participate, providing application assistance for rentals ranging from six months to over a year. Attendees can engage with housing providers to discuss apartment availability in St. Petersburg and surrounding areas.
"This event is a significant step towards housing stability and recovery for those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton," stated Amy Foster, Housing and Neighborhood Services Administrator for the City of St. Petersburg. "We look forward to partnering with the Bay Area Apartment Association to connect those seeking housing solutions with local housing opportunities."
The fair welcomes households displaced by the hurricanes from outside St. Petersburg as well, aiming to be a comprehensive resource for all attendees. Many participating providers are offering discounts or flexible terms for those affected by the hurricanes.
Further details about the event are available at www.baaahq.org/news.
This initiative aligns with St. Petersburg's Housing Opportunities For All Plan, launched by Mayor Welch in April 2023, which seeks to address rising housing costs and support affordable living solutions within the city.
