The City of St. Petersburg has been selected to participate in the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) national cohort, supported by the LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program. Bank of America partnered with USGBC to launch the Local Government Leadership Program in 2017, contributing over $2.75 million to support various cities and counties in their pursuit of LEED certification. The program aims to assist local governments committed to reducing climate change impacts and advancing resilience and social equity by measuring and tracking performance using the LEED for Cities rating system.
The 2024 cohort includes nearly 5 million Americans from diverse locations across the United States: St. Petersburg, FL; Overland Park, KS; La Crosse, WI; Coral Springs, FL; Boca Raton, FL; Gainesville, FL; Jacksonville, FL; El Paso, TX; Carrollton, TX; Gary, IN; New Orleans, LA; and Philadelphia, PA.
St. Petersburg's Office of Sustainability & Resiliency has been dedicated to implementing sustainable policies and programs to address environmental, economic, and social challenges for over 15 years. The city is a member of the Tampa Bay Regional Resiliency Coalition which coordinates climate adaptation and mitigation activities across county lines. Additionally, St. Petersburg has joined numerous other cities nationwide in committing to greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) promotes a sustainable future through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings via its LEED green building program. USGBC also offers educational resources and supports public policy that encourages green buildings and communities.
