St. Pete Extra! July 2024 Edition

Applications for the Cohort of Champions Fall Academy are now open. The program offers opportunities in entrepreneurship, job skills, and other educational activities for underserved teens in St. Pete, ages 12-15. For more information and to apply, visit stpete.org/Cohort.

St. Pete residents are encouraged to celebrate the start of summer break and learn about violence prevention through Safe Summer Fridays. This initiative provides a safe space for youth ages 12-16 to enjoy an open gym, movie night, and refreshments. More details can be found at stpete.org/SafeSummer.

Sandbags are available to St. Pete residents year-round from Monday to Friday (7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) and on the second Saturday of each month at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building located at 1744 9th Ave. N., except during declared emergencies. Residents are reminded that registering to vote is essential for having their voices heard in upcoming Primary and General elections. Registration can be completed online, at public libraries, or through voter registration organizations. Further details on how to register can be found at votepinellas.com.

Utility billing rates and charges for water, wastewater, reclaimed water, stormwater, and sanitation will change on October 1, 2024, pending City Council approval. Updates can be tracked at stpete.org/Rates.

For those seeking summer recreation options, St. Pete's premier golf courses—Mangrove Bay, Cypress Links, and Twin Brooks—offer pristine greens and scenic views suitable for all skill levels. Tee times can be booked at golfstpete.com.

The City is offering free water conservation workshops covering various topics from sprinkler systems to landscape planting through fall. Community members interested in participating can sign up at stpete.org/WaterWorkshops.

CareFest returns this fall as a celebration of volunteering and community service in St. Pete. Submissions for community projects such as painting, repair work or yardwork are being accepted through August 1st via stpete.org/CareFest.

On July 19th, the City will launch the Community Food Grant Program as part of the final phase of the Healthy Food Action Plan. This grant program aims to fund local nonprofit organizations developing innovative solutions for an inclusive food landscape in St.Pete.
