The City of St. Petersburg has opened a Request For Qualifications (RFQ) for artists to contribute public art to the new President Barack Obama Main Library, located at 3745 9th Ave. N. The deadline for artists to apply and submit their qualifications for the project is July 27, 2024, by 5 p.m.

"Public art is essential to the unique fabric of St. Pete. Not only does it beautify our surroundings, but it also reflects our diverse culture, sparks dialogue, and inspires the community," said Celeste Davis, Director of Arts, Culture & Tourism. “The President Barack Obama Main Library project offers a unique opportunity to celebrate our shared history and envision our collective future through the power of art."

The President Barack Obama Main Library is currently undergoing renovations with completion expected in Spring 2025.

Interested and experienced artists can find more information about the RFQ, eligibility, and application at www.stpete.org/ArtistOpportunities. Eligibility requirements apply. The Project Committee will review applications and select three finalists in Fall 2024. Finalists will make presentations to the Project Committee and will be able to install their artwork by Spring 2025.

The City of St. Petersburg seeks artists who are able to design, build, and install artwork that reflects the history of St. Pete and advances made by minority residents; create a concept that encompasses the importance of learning and education; honor the legacy of former President Barack Obama; and pay attention to the upcoming library’s community spaces aligning with Mayor Welch's focus on education and youth opportunities.
