July 11, 2024 - As hurricane season intensifies, the City of St. Petersburg has announced additional days for residents to collect sandbags during non-emergency periods. Sandbags will now be available on the second Saturday of each month at the year-round sandbag distribution site located at the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building (1744 9th Ave. N.). The next event is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
These extended hours aim to enhance equity and accessibility, allowing more St. Petersburg residents to obtain sandbags and prepare for hurricane season outside of regular work hours. The City encourages residents to proactively gather their sandbags and other necessary materials in anticipation of storms.
The sandbag distribution location operates Monday through Friday and on the second Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Second Saturday hours will continue until further notice. During emergency declarations for storms, changes to sandbag distribution locations and hours will be communicated via stpete.org/Sandbags.
Each household is eligible to receive up to ten sandbags, with proof of residence required for collection. Staff will be available to assist seniors and others who may need help filling and loading their sandbags.
